The Maison Carrée (Maison:'House',Carré:'rectangle') still stands as you see it here, although it was originally painted in rich colours.
It survives intact because of it's conversion to a church, which saved it from the destruction of temples that ensued when Christianity became the Formal religion of the Roman empire.

La Maison Carrée (Nimes)

Information:

This model is of the Maison Caree ,situated in the town of Nimes in an area called Provence, in France . It was built some time between 20 and 16 BC by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, dedicated to Gaius Julius Caesar Vipsanianus and Lucius Caesar, sons of Emperor Augustus.
Nimes was a Celtic or Gaulish city, known as Nemausus at this time.
A fine example of Roman Classical architecture.
